Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Neurobiology, is seeking a dedicated Researcher Assistant to join their team. The Researcher Assistant will be able to function under minimal supervision, to set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals. To collect, enter, analyze, and graph da ta. To monitor results and report unusual outcomes. To establish and maintain an organized lab environment. To order lab supplies and keep inventory to ensure necessary resources are available to lab staff. To handle and work with rodents (rats and mice) often daily, as they are an essential component of the research. To communicate effectively with the PI and lab staff.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Assistant, you will contribute to the daily operations of research projects under the close supervision of experienced researchers. This role involves performing standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Your support will be crucial in helping senior team members execute complex protocols and ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
Runs behavioral experiments in rats/mice, including self-administration and tests of cognition, anxiety, and depression.
Performs surgical procedures in rodents.
Maintains transgenic rodent colonies.
Collects biological samples from rodents.
Performs histology and microscopic imaging on rodent brain tissue.
Collects, enter, analyze, and graph data according to established lab protocols.
Monitors results; detects and reports unusual outcomes.
Orders lab supplies and maintains inventory; maintains lab equipment.
Performs basic statistical data analysis.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Hourly Range: $16.50- $19.24
