Job Description
The Department of Nutrition Science is seeking a Researcher 3. This role provides behavioral nutrition counseling to research participants to motivate them to adhere to study goals. Provides nutrition information, education and instruction. Performs research, collects/analyzes data, and prepares reports. Prepares instructional materials and maintains program records. Schedules and conducts nutrition assessments including food records, education, and instruction. Performs pertinent record-keeping and follow-up activities. Will assist with designing clinically controlled feeding menus, preparing meals in the metabolic kitchen, recruiting patients, delivering meals, and conducting other research study visits and responsibilities. Assists with data entry and data management. Helps to procure, prepare, and deliver clinically controlled feeding meals and menus for nutritional interventions within UAB's Department of Nutrition Sciences' Metabolic Kitchen. Other nutrition research lab and metabolic kitchen procedures will be assigned accordingly per research study needs. General Responsibilities
- To manage and help conduct nutrition interventions within the UAB Dept. Nutrition Sciences, and to work directly with research participants in executing the study protocol
- To serve as an assistant to the metabolic kitchen dietitian and manager.
- To prepare meals in the metabolic kitchen, recruit patients, deliver meals, and conduct other research study visits and responsibilities
- To design research diets and clinically controlled feeding menus, assist with diet preparation and meal pick up or delivery, perform nutrition assessments, analyze intake data using nutrient analysis programs, acquire informed consent, and work with clinic staff to collect outcomes data.
- o serve as a liaison with nutrition and medical staff, University Departments, ancillary departments and/or satellite facilities.
- To organize patient enrollment planning.
- To conduct quality assurance activities. T
- o compile and analyze data within REDCap, NDSR, ProNutra, SharePoint, Excel, etc.
- To develop and implement procedures, maintain records, track progress, and conduct quality assurance on data collected.
- To serve as a mentor to junior staff, including student assistants.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare meals in the metabolic kitchen, recruit patients, deliver meals, and conduct other research study visits and responsibilities.
- Assist in designing research diets and clinically controlled feeding menus and metabolic kitchen SOPs
- Screening and enrolling participants in nutrition clinical trials.
- Conduct informed consent per GCP guidelines.
- As an interventionist, conduct patient visits per protocol schedule of events.
- Follow the clinical trial budget with each visit.
- Document adverse events, medications, and procedures conducted at each visit.
- Administer GCMs; surveys, food recalls, records, and questionnaires; other procedures as trained.
- Conduct study visits and meal pick-ups.
- Assist PI, staff, and nursing to develop and adhere to protocol orders.
- Attend team meetings and educational training as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned
*This is an off-campus position. Kitchen is currently located on Samford University's campus. Reliable transportation is required. * The job will move from Samford to the Webb building on UAB's campus in early 2025.
Salary Range: $35,570-$59,800 Master's degree in a related field OR Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience
OR Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required.
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
